_ The 2020 Texas Canyon Trail Run 10K & 5K:

TEXAS CANYON TRAIL RUN POSTPONDED

New Date: Saturday, September 12, 2020

Dear Texas Canyon Trail Run Participants,

Yesterday evening the Arizona Department of Health Services changed its recommended guidelines to the public regarding public gatherings. The new guidelines follow the CDC’s recommendation to postpone gatherings of 50 or more people for the next 8 weeks. For our community members’ health and safety, Amerind will be postponing the Texas Canyon Trail Run until this fall.

The new date for the Trail Run will be Saturday, September 12, 2020. If you are able to join us on that date, you need to do nothing. Amerind will transfer your registration, payment, and t-shirt orders to the new date.

If you are unable to join us September 12, you have the following options:

·         You may transfer your registration to another person. All you need to do is send an email to [email protected] to do so.

·       You may donate your registration to a member of a youth running organization. This has been done in the past and assists in promoting a heathy lifestyle to younger generations. Simply send an email to [email protected] to donate your registration.

·       You may convert your registration fee into a tax-deducible donation to Amerind. Your generosity will assist Amerind immensely, as we face an uncertain number of postponed programs in the future. The revenue from these programs helps us keep our doors open to the public, inspiring and educating guests. To convert your registration to a tax-deductible financial contribution to Amerind email [email protected].

·       You may also request a refund. Please know these requests will be fulfilled as quickly as possible, but may take some time to process. Please notify Amerind at [email protected] by Saturday, April 4, to receive a registration refund.

We thank you for your understanding during this challenging time. Please do not hesitate to contact Amerind via email at [email protected] or by phone at 520-586-3666 if you have any questions.

The Amerind Museum presents the 7th Annual Texas Canyon Trail Run. Here’s your chance to intimately experience this awe inspiring region that is normally closed to the public. Run or walk the scenic 5K or 10K courses in beautiful Texas Canyon. Participation in the event enables Amerind to further its mission of fostering and promoting knowledge and understanding of the Native Peoples of the Americas through research, education, conservation, and community engagement.

In a culture of running, it is no surprise that many Native communities have ways of encouraging runners along their path. Among the O'odham of Arizona and Sonora, singing is important at all community events and celebrations. At the Texas Canyon Trail Run, Amerind is honored to welcome the No:lic Traditional Singers and Dancers. They are from the community of No:lic on the Tohono O'odham Nation. Most of their singers belong to a multi-generational family that values their ancient singing and dance traditions. On September 12, they will sing traditional O'odham songs in their Native language to encourage the trail runners along their way.

Event details and schedule

We believe you will experience trail running at its best on a course that takes you through spectacular Texas Canyon, an area that will only be open to the public on race day. Please remember, no baby joggers, no dogs, no headsets, in compliance with our insurance requirements---- you will really want to be “in the moment” anyway. We have three water stations on the course. If you expect to need more than that on the course, you may want to carry your own additional water. Also, please comply with our no smoking policy.

Packet pick-up is on race day starting at 7:30 a.m.

Race-day registration is available and will start at 7:30 a.m.

The Texas Canyon Trail Run starts at 9:00 with the 10K division and 9:20 for the 5K.

Finish Line Celebration and Awards

Once you have completed the race, please stay for the Awards Ceremony at 10:30 am and grab a bite to eat from the Curbside Kitchen food truck. Then at 11:00 am, Amerind welcomes Professor Matthew Sakiestewa Gilbert (Hopi), Head of the Department of American Indian Studies, University of Arizona, who will give the presentation “Hopi Runners: Crossing the Terrain between Indian and American.”  Your race registration includes this presentation, as well as free entry into the Amerind Museum and Art Gallery. Simply show your bib number to the admissions desk to take advantage of this offer.

We hope to see you Saturday, September 12, 2020.
