In keeping with all city, state and federal mandates we are suspending pre-registration until further notice. We will closely monitor all developments and decisions. We will update this page as needed.
 

We have not postponed nor canceled yet. We remain optimistic that we will all get through the crisis we face and be able to have our great event again. Thank for your support and understanding. Stay safe.

Join the Black Rock neighborhood residents as we celebrate 376 years with our annual Run for the Rock 5k and kid’s fun run!  Our annual 5k run/walk starts the events for "Black Rock Day", including a  bed race, parade at high noon, and an entire day of family activities and great food. Our little neighborhood run has blossomed into a "must-do" run that often sells out before race day.

Black Rock’s history spans nearly four centuries beginning as a colonial settlement. With its unique location, it played a pivotal role in the War for Independence. Black Rock then became a major trading and shipbuilding center for CT.  In the last fifty years, it has transitioned into a thriving community linked to the growth of Bridgeport. Once an important industrial center, it has developed into a vibrant and close-knit community uniquely positioned to meet the challenges of the 21st century. 

THE 5K COURSE- Almost half of the 3.1 mile route runs through the area known as "St. Mary’s by the Sea". It is directly alongside the Black Rock Harbor and Long Island Sound. The scenery is terrific and the roads are flat. You will have an absolutely unobstructed and spectacular view of Black Rock Harbor & the Fayerweather Lighthouse. The 3rd mile starts up "Old Battery Rd" for a steep 1/10 mile. You'll enjoy a great reward of 2/10 mile downhill and from there an absolutely "flat to the finish" rest of your run. The finish line overlooks Black Rock Harbor! All mile splits are marked. Walkers & all levels of participants are welcome. 

KIDS "LITTLE ROCK & RUN" - There will be a free kids 1/10 mi fun run 15 minutes before the 5k start which starts at our 3mile mark and runs straight to the finish, We ask that the little tykes be 10 years & younger. A Parent/ adult may accompany the child to prevent any drama. There are NO shirts NOR awards for this Non-Competitive, fun run.         

DETAILS- THIS EVENT IS ABSOLUTELY LIMITED to 550 PARTICIPANTS for SAFETY and PARKING SO THAT YOU CAN HAVE THE BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT -you may get shut out. Last year we were filled and closed registration the Monday before the race!

Shirt sizes will be offered until May 30. If you register late, you might not get a shirt in your size OR YOU MAY NOT GET A SHIRT AT ALL. We must order and print shirts a min of 10 business days in advance of the event.

EVENT FEES - $30 for 19 & older, $20 for 18 & under until 8pm June 12.  THE ONLINE FEE IS PAID BY THE RACE. 

There MAY be limited registration available on packet pick up day at the full price of $35 / $25 if not sold out. Please bring exact cash or check- we cannot accept credit cards. 

PRE REG BIB & SHIRT PICKUP - SATURDAY JUNE 13 from 3 pm-5 pm at Harborview Market, 218 Harborview Ave. Bridgeport 06605. YES, you can pick up for other people and we encourage that you to do so and save the hassle and pressure of race day! Please do NOT call Harborview Market for any reason concerning this race, with questions or for pickup info. They are a host venue only & NOT part of the race committee.

RACE DAY REG IF AVAILABLE- starts 7:30 am. $35 for 19 & older, $25 for 18 & under. Our great T-shirts may have run out by then so please register early. Bring exact cash or check, please. We cannot accept credit cards.  IF YOU DIDN'T PRE REG- CHECK THIS WEB PAGE BEFORE LEAVING FOR THIS EVENT- WE WILL POST A "SOLD OUT" WARNING AT THE TOP BY 6/12 IF WE ARE FILLED.

POST RACE - There will be plenty of food & fluids when you are finished including fruit, bagels, and snacks. 

PARKING - IS EXTREMELY LIMITED- it is mostly street parking so please try to carpool. There are a few lots in the area that will add about a quarter-mile walk to your warm-up. This is the type of event which you really do need to plan & get to early!

AWARDS - Every participant that completes the entire 5k is eligible for awards. This a computer chip-timed race with awards given to the first Male & Female champions, Age group awards to the top three m & f in  9 & under, 10-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-60, 70+ and older IF PRE REGISTERED.

RACE DIRECTOR - Marty Schaivone, MS Running Productions, has managed this event since 2010. MSRP is involved with over 45 events in Fairfield County that donated over $250,000 to charities in 2019.
