_ The 2020 Fishbein / YMCA Community Road Race:
Almost 50 years ago, Johanna Manfreda Fishbein started a tradition in Wallingford that would grow and change significantly over the years, bringing organizations throughout the town together to collaborate in an effort to support residents in need.
The Wallingford Family YMCA is proud to continue this tradition as host of the annual Fishbein/YMCA Community Road Race on October 4th this year. For the past three years, we’ve been thrilled with our partnership with Celebrate Wallingford, a town wide event that brings the community together. We are saddened by the cancellation of this event, and look forward to joining with them again in future years. This year, to prioritize the health and safety of our participants, our event will have both a live and a virtual component, bringing people together safely during the midst of our most challenging year. In following the Governor’s guidelines for outdoor events during the COVID crisis, the following protocol will be put in place this year to ensure that participants will be as safe as possible:
5K will be the only LIVE EVENT
5K, 10K and 1 mile walk will be offered as virtual options
The race will be limited to 500 participants
There will be a rolling start. Faster runners are encouraged to be in the earlier waves.
There will be a longer chute at the finish line, and participants & spectators will not be allowed to congregate near the finish line or elsewhere.
The awards ceremony will be held virtually.
All results will be posted virtually; there will not be a kiosk this year.
We will have water bottles available at the start/finish line, but we strongly encourage participants to bring their own water via bottle, hydration belt, or hydration pack.
Spectators, staff and volunteers will all be required to wear face masks and to socially distance by at least 6 feet.
Runners do not need to wear a face mask during the race but shall wear face masks at all other times including prior to and after the race when social distancing cannot be maintained.
Runners will need to socially distance by at least 12 feet as much as possible during the race.
Registration is online only. There will be no day of race registration.
Packet pick-up will be Friday 10/2 from 2pm-7pm and Saturday 10/3 from 9am-3pm. All packets must be picked up during these times; there will be no pick-up on race day.
Race shirts will be available for the first 400 participants for our live or virtual events (**except Under Age 19 $5 option)
