_ The 2020 The Short Beach Summer 5K Run:

We are very excited to be bring back running events to our community!

Thanks to the cooperation of many Stratford town departments we are able to host our event from scenic Short Beach in Stratford CT on Saturday, Aug. 1st. Our first wave starts at 8 am.

*We will have protocols in place for safety, physical distancing, and will follow all best practices as set forth by our town and state. This event is limited to 140 people.

*We are counting on you to help in carrying out all safety procedures on your end so that we can have a very successful event, and do this again with the town's approval!

WE APPRECIATE THE COOPERATION AND SUPPORT GIVEN TO US BY THESE STRATFORD TOWN DEPARTMENTS DURING THIS TIME OF COVID. WE COULD NOT DO THIS WITHOUT OUR FRIENDS FROM -

RECREATION, HEALTH, EMS, POLICE, & FIRE

This year all proceeds will be donated to MADD CT.

The actual "MADD Dash" has gone virtual (link below) and we hope you will support them.

THE RACE WILL BE LIMITED TO 140 ENTRANTS, in keeping with the state guidelines on group gatherings (this number may be changed if restrictions are relaxed/added). The race website will indicate when there are 10 or fewer spots left.  Online registration will close when the limit is reached.

THERE WILL NOT BE ANY RACE DAY / AUG 1 REGISTRATION

Only participants will be allowed in the registration or race area - no spectators or family, please.

All registration must be done in advance, online, using this site. Registration will remain open until midnight 7/31.

BIB & Pin PICKUP IS CONTACTLESS- After choosing a bib you will walk by our volunteer or timer who will record your name/number.

YOU MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES PRIOR TO CROSSING THE START LINE AND SOON AFTER YOUR FINISH. THAT INCLUDES WHILE STRETCHING, WARMING UP, WAITING FOR A BATHROOM, ETC.

Yes there’s a lot to read here but, “we are not in Kansas anymore Toto.”

The goal of the event is to provide a truly fun running experience for the participants while adhering to all CDC social distancing and safety guidelines.
The event will have a time-trial type set up which will allow runners to start individually or in small groups of associated participants (family members or participants that cohabitate) during designated times between 8:00 AM-8:20 AM. While registering you will be asked to select a starting time. The course remains open until 9:30 AM.

Each participant's start time will be recorded as they cross the starting line. As participants finish, they will receive a text message and/or email with their finishing time.  A list of overall finishing times for all competitors will be continually updated while the race is in progress. Shortly after 10 AM, the final race results should be posted.

To help ensure the safety of the participants the racecourse will utilize the Bib Chip System.
Additionally, all participants must adhere to the following requirements:

*Participants are required to be completely self-sufficient. No water stop on the course! Carry your own fluids and DO NOT DROP them on the course!
*Participants must follow all CDC safe distancing guidelines.
*When approaching the starting line participants must immediately begin their run WHEN DIRECTED. Participants MUST approach the starting line ready to run.
*Participants will not be allowed to congregate or conduct any race preparation (warm-ups, stretching, adjusting or changing apparel, etc.) in the starting area.
*Except for passing, participants should always remain safe to the side of the road indicated by cones, signs, or volunteers.
*Participants passing one another on the course must adhere to “no drafting” rules KEEPING DISTANCE between other runners at any time.

*Participants may pass only when there are not any oncoming runners approaching from the opposite direction. Before passing, participants must be sure they can safely remain six feet behind and then six feet in front of the participant being overtaken before merging back to the road/pathway.
*Participants must follow all instructions of the course marshals and may only cross the street when instructed to do so by the police or course volunteers.
*Failure to adhere to course volunteer instructions and/or crossing at any time other than when instructed will result in immediate disqualification.
*WHEN COMPLETING YOUR RUN AND CROSSING THE FINISH  YOU MUST CONTINUE MOVING AS DIRECTED

AFTER YOU ARE DONE-

We will provide a sealed bottle of water and pre-wrapped/sealed snacks or snack bars of some kind.

Participants will be required to leave the finish line/snack area and proceed immediately to their vehicle as soon as they complete their run & get their snack. No congregating of any type will be permitted either before, during, or after the event. Failure to adhere to any of the stated race requirements will result in immediate disqualification for the participant.

Please keep in mind that your cooperation and adherence to all safe distancing practices is the key to us being able to offer competitive events like this in the future. Thank you!

This event is produced by MS Running Productions & Marty Schaivone, with great help from Jim Gerweck (timer) and the town departments of Stratford. We all want to be together again and by taking small steps like this we can help our charities and prove that our sport can make a comeback. We look forward to seeing you soon and in the future.
