_ The 2020 Maine Nephrology Associates' 5K Walk/Run for Kidney Health:

Kidney health is one of the most important, yet least-discussed, issues in healthcare today.  It is estimated that 1 in 3 American adults is currently at risk for developing kidney disease, and 26 million people already have it, although most don’t even realize it.  Kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death in the U.S., killing more people annually than breast or prostate cancer. Because kidney disease often has no symptoms, it can go unchecked until it is far advanced.  Yet early kidney disease is very easy to detect with simple blood and urine tests, and is very treatable in the beginning stages.  It is this message that we at Maine Nephrology Associates strive to convey to our community in the hopes of raising awareness of prevention, early intervention, and support for those suffering in the later stages. 

Come out and enjoy a fantastic event for an even more fantastic cause!  Maine Nephrology Associates and American Kidney Fund are partnering for our 5th Annual Maine Nephrology Associates’ 5K Walk/Run for Kidney Health.  The race will begin promptly at 9 am with same day registrations beginning at 8am.  Preceding this race will be a 100-yard dash for ages 10 and under.  All pre-registered participants will receive a race T-shirt as a giveaway as long as they pre-register by April 22, 2020.  Same day race registrants are welcome to purchase a T-shirt on race day at a low cost.  All proceeds from this race will be donated to American Kidney Fund, which will in turn be used to help support Maine dialysis patients who are experiencing financial difficulties.

Course Details:

The start and finish line will again be at Edward Payson Park.  Participants will run into Payson Park, then turn to follow Baxter Boulevard along picturesque Back Cove towards Vannah Avenue; runners and walkers will turn around at Vannah Avenue and walk or run back towards Bates Street, then turn around again and cover the short distance to the finish line!
