_ The 2020 Grand River Road Race Half Marathon:
The Grand River Track Club is launching the Grand River Road Race to give area runners an opportunity to compete this fall on a certified course. This is a low-cost, no-frills race for those who want to test themselves and compete against others or the clock and are not concerned with the medals, age group awards or inflated prices.
Capacity is limited to 50 runners and all current CDC-recommended COVID-19 practices will be followed.
This race will be hand-timed. When performed correctly this is a very accurate way to measure time. We are currently working on the starting procedure to ensure that we can maintain CDC-recommended spacing while also giving people accurate times. More details to come.
We will continue timing the race until 3 hours has passed. This will allow a pace of 13:44/mile. The course is an open course so you may continue running after the time limit has passed, but your time will not be recorded as official.
The race will begin and end near downtown Grandville and most of the route will utilize the Kent trail system. This will be a USATF certified course, and the USATF certification # will be posted soon.
The route will be open during the event. This means that there will likely be pedestrian and bike traffic on the course during the race. Vehicle traffic may be present but should be minimal.
*Please note that many running watches and fitness trackers will report too long of a distance over a certified course. This is because of runners not following all tangents as well as GPS tracking error.
Aid station information will be released when the course is finalized. There will be at least 2 opportunities to get water on the course.
Packet pickup will occur onsite on race day beginning at 7:00am, ending at 7:45am. No early packet pickup will be provided.
Race day registration will be available for $30 cash only if spots remain. Race day registration will be first come, first serve.
Refunds are not guaranteed as a result of event cancellation, but we will try our best to provide them as possible.
Current Michigan COVID-19 laws ban outdoor gatherings and events of greater than 100 people and our event is designed to stay well under that number. 100 is also the threshold for requiring permits in many locations. A small field size again minimizes the risk of a permit being pulled.
If laws change and this event must be cancelled due to COVID-19 we will attempt to provide a refund, new race date, and/or alternate race experience that would still follow the law.
If the event must be cancelled due to severe weather on race day or damage to the course shortly before the race, refunds may not be provided.
