Registration and pre-race details

The Frostbite Series will take place as its usual short and long course series of races in Forest Park.  Registrations for each of the short and long course series will be capped at 350 participants. All participants must preregister - there will be no race day registrations. The event is only offered as a series - there will be no single race registrations.

The short and long course series will each have its own set of starting times. The short series will begin at 7:30 a.m. The long series will begin at 9 a.m.  Runners will be assigned bib numbers and wave start times in groups of 50 based on when they signed up for the race. Bib numbers will be mailed to participants before the start of the first race (so they will not need to be picked up) and should be used for the entire series.

Short series waves will begin every 5 minutes at the following intervals: 7:30 a.m., 7:35 a.m., 7:40 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 7:50 a.m., 7:55 a.m., and 8:00 a.m. with 4 runners beginning every 15 seconds.

Long series waves will begin every 5 minutes at the following intervals: 9:00 a.m., 9:05 a.m., 9:10 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 9:20 a.m., 9:25 a.m., and 9:30 a.m. with 4 runners beginning every 15 seconds.

We will be sending out a short COVID-19 symptom questionnaire prior to the race. Participants and volunteers will be required to fill it out and submit it electronically no more than 24 hours prior to the start of each race. Runners will not be allowed to start without completing the questionnaire. Printed copies will be available at the start if a runner has not completed it for that race.

Prerace instructions will be sent to participants including requirements for social distancing, required used of a face covering before and after racing, and details for entering the starting area and leaving the finish area.

Race day details

Starting lines will be near the Visitors Center in Forest Park. However, due to COVID-19, we do not have a permit this year to use the Visitors Center on race day and participants will not be allowed to enter. Portable restrooms and hand cleaning stations will be available in the parking lot across from the Visitors Center. We encourage participants to wait in their vehicles or outside before their start time.

Water and safety stations will be set up on the course. Stations will have water in cups. Participants will be required to pick up their own drinks at water stations. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle or hydration device.

Postrace refreshments will consist of water and prepackaged products that participants will be required to pick up on their own.

COVID-19 safety protocols

St. Louis Track Club will employ strict health and safety considerations regarding participants and volunteers. Participants are required to wear a face covering pre and post-race. Participants should bring their own mask to wear until their race starts. Running in a mask is not required. Participants should carry their mask with them and put it on post-race. Physical distancing of at least 6 feet must be maintained in start and finish areas, on the race course, and while around any other participants or volunteers.

If a participant or volunteer tests positive for COVID-19

Abiding by our agreement with health authorities, if at any time during the series a runner or participant tests positive for COVID-19, they must inform the St. Louis Track Club within 48 hours. St. Louis Track Club is responsible for informing participants within the affected runner’s starting wave and those who finish within close proximity. Completing the Frostbite Series registration is acknowledgement of this responsibility.

Shirts and awards

All participants will receive a race shirt and series commemorative event medal.

Awards will be given for each series (per gender) in the following age groups: 12 & under; 13-16; 17-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80 & over. Your age on December 12 will determine your age for the series. You must complete at least three races to be eligible for a series award. There will be 3 awards per age group. A runner’s best four races will be awarded points based on their age group placement using the following scale: 1st – 50 points; 2nd – 45 points; 3rd – 40 points; 4th – 35 points; 5th – 30 points; all finishers receive 25 points. Details on receiving awards will be sent to recipients following the conclusion of the series.  Awards for virtual runners will be given to the top male and female runners 1,2,3

Cancellations and weather policy

As with any race year, the safety and well-being of everyone is our utmost concern and we will keep all event options within the guidelines of the CDC, the State of Missouri, and the City of St. Louis. Should an in-person Frostbite Series not be permitted by government or health authorities, we will allow runners to convert to the virtual option or offer a deferral to a future St. Louis Track Club event.

Races will be held rain, snow, or shine and will not be cancelled except for cases of severe weather or unsafe road/course conditions. Less threatening conditions may cause alterations of the course or race day activities to ensure participant, volunteer, and community safety. The St. Louis Track Club is a nonprofit organization and all net proceeds are used to further the SLTC’s mission in the community. As such, no refunds or credits will be given in case of cancellation due to weather.
