_ The 2021 Run For The Rock:

Join the Black Rock neighborhood residents as we celebrate 377 years with our annual Run for the Rock 5k.  As we come back out to enjoy our wonderful neighborhood, we still need to be mindful of COVID-19. Therefore, to be careful of everyone’s safety and to ensure social distancing concerns, we will be hosting the race live but with limited participants. While we do love our traditional Black Rock Day weekend, and we hope to get back to that in the future. We can be social but please respect the six foot distance!

Our registration limit for this event will be 300 participants. If we are sold out there is NO day of REGISTRATION. If not sold out we can accept online registrations only up to 15 minutes prior to the start. WE CANNOT USE PAPER/IN PERSON REG FORMS per state guidelines.

Runners will be released in staggered waves so please pay attention to race organizers and results will be posted as runners come in. Your entry fee does include the coveted BR Shirt and they will be available the morning of the race for pickup. Delivery in the days after ONLY within the Black Rock area. For those people outside of Black Rock - your shirt will be mailed to you.

Please post photos of yourself during this run/walk on social media with the following hashtags: #runfortherock and #blackrock. Don't forget to tag us in your posts on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtags too!

Black Rock’s history spans nearly four centuries beginning as a colonial settlement. With its unique location, it played a pivotal role in the War for Independence. Black Rock then became a major trading and shipbuilding center for CT.  In the last fifty years, it has transitioned into a thriving community linked to the growth of Bridgeport. Once an important industrial center, it has developed into a vibrant and close-knit community uniquely positioned to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

SAFETY MODIFICATIONS
COVID CONCERNS-Please do not attend this event if you have any symptoms, a fever, or have been tested positive- unless a subsequent negative test was received five days or more, prior. Thank you.

Thanks to the City of Bridgeport we will be able to present a completely outdoor event. No building will be used, safe distances and safety protocols will be in place, and State guidelines will be met.
HOWEVER-we all must be prepared for any change that can happen at any time which may mean a suspension of this live event, and result in a 'virtual' run.

With fixed costs and pre-payment of many items, this means we CANNOT under any conditions REFUND any registration fees. Whether we are live or virtual our commitment to our charity funding will be maintained. We hope you can support this commitment and join us.

IMPORTANT DETAIL- There will be a 300 person limit for this 5k event. We need 200 people to break even with our fixed costs! We encourage everyone to donate any additional amount to the charity.

MASKS REQUIRED- We must adhere to all safety protocols so please help us by keeping masks on prior to the start line and immediately after you finish. And of course, keep a safe distance when you arrive, warm-up, chat with friends, and after you are done.

MODIFICATIONS FOR A SAFE START- We will be using a chip-timed, "open start" format which has been successfully used in various races around the state. A maximum of five people at the start line leaving at 10-15 second intervals means that a field of 300 can safely clear the start in ten minutes or less.
WE NEED YOUR HELP FOR A SAFE START- If you are truly at a speedy running level (6-7min pace per mile or under) we urge you to be at the start early and ready to go at 9 am. This will avoid crowding on the course and help everyone to run more safely. Thanks!

ON THE COURSE- We ask you to stay safe, announce if you are passing from behind, and not to run in groups. PLEASE DO NOT USE EARPODS, HEADPHONES, or similar accessories which will keep you from responding to directions, traffic, emergency situations, and the wonderful sounds from our neighborhood and cheering fans!
