_The 2021 Beyond Half and Full Marathon Training Program - Basic Edition Summer:

Thinking about training for your first half or full marathon and looking for a comprehensive training program in a fun and supportive environment? Completed one or more half and/or full marathons and looking for that next dimension in your training? Kalamazoo Area Runners (KAR) is pleased to introduce a FREE to KAR members Basic Edition of our out of this world half and full marathon training program! The 2021 Summer Beyond Half and Full Marathon Training Program (Basic Edition) runs Saturday mornings at 7:00am July 10th through October 9th and features schedules to prepare you for the Detroit and Grand Rapids Half and Full Marathons.  The program also includes nine weeks Tuesday interval sessions at 6:00pm from July 13 - September 7th (location TBD).  

Place the launch date on your calendar.  A Virtual Information Night and Blast Off is Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 6:30pm.  The link will be sent out to the KAR distribution and posted to KAR Facebook groups the week before.  The 2021 Summer Beyond Half and Full Marathon Training Program (Basic Edition) will be capped at 200 registered participants.  

The Summer Beyond Half and Full Marathon Training Program (Basic Edition) includes:

*Organized Saturday morning runs held on a variety of courses in greater Kalamazoo and Portage.  The majority of runs offer a pre and post run outdoor venue with rest room facilities.  

*Saturday Runs begin at 7:00am (6:45 pre-run gathering time and discussion) 

*Low, moderate and high intensity half and full marathon training schedules with day by day workouts.

*Tuesday interval training (lactate threshold and VO2 max) (location TBD)

*Limited Hydration (individually bottled water every 3 miles) out on the course***Runners are encouraged to carry their own water and electrolyte/sports beverage.

*Weekly email and blog site communications with training tips, schedules, and more

*Supportive and encouraging Team Leaders with pace groups ranging from under 9:00 min/miles to 12 + min/miles. Program is directed by an RRCA certified running coach. 

*Informative Clinics select Tuesday evenings from 5:30 - 6:00pm on site before interval training.  

*Virtual Information Night Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 6:30pm (link to be sent to KAR distributions and posted to KAR Facebook groups

*A FUN and supportive winter training experience with shared camaraderie and team spirit.
