_The 2022 Azalea Festival Sun Run Presented by Harris Teeter:

The North Carolina Azalea Festival is held every Spring in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Azalea Festival’s roots go back to 1934 with Dr. Houston Moore who had the vision of transforming un-kept, swampy Greenfield Lake into a beautiful landscaped park. He enlisted the support of a coalition of local clubs, headed by the Wilmington Rotary Club, to bring the vision to life. It took nearly ten years of financial ups and down before the park finally blossomed, but once it did, its splendor inspired Dr. Moore to conceive the idea of a Festival to be held annually ‘when the flowers burst into bloom’. The first North Carolina Azalea Festival was held in 1948 and despite modest projections, drew over 60,000 spectators – including one invited guest that came all the way from Hollywood: movie queen Jacqueline White, who was named the first Queen Azalea.

Join us for the Azalea Festival Sun Run presented by Harris Teeter and run at your local area beaches during Festival week.  We'd love nothing more than to see everyone running in the sun while sporting the Azalea Festival Sun Run T-shirt.

The Azalea Festival Sun Run 5k is a virtual race held March 25th through April 1st.  Participants will run and upload run times during this week.  If you would like to meet up with some fellow runners, we will be having an in person run session on Saturday, March 25th from 9-11am at Wrightsville Beach to kick off race week!  Stop in at Wrightsville Beach Park from 9-11am to get your run in and say hello to Festival staff and friends at the tent. This also will be your first chance to pick up your Azalea Sun Run official race T-shirt!
    
Registration includes a free Sun Run T-shirt to all who register! 

**T-shirts will be ordered February 20, 2022.  Please make sure to register by this date to ensure your correct T-shirt size.  A limited number of extra T-shirts will be ordered, however we cannot guarantee that you will receive a T-shirt (and if you do, potentially not your size), after the February 20th date.  Therefore, please sign up by February 20, 2022 to ensure you receive a T-shirt.**

We will also be giving away 6 sets of concert tickets to an Azalea Festival Concert of your choice at random to those who participate and upload their times!  

Since this is a virtual race, you can run whenever or wherever you love seeing the sun the most during March 25th - April 1st!

Also, if you live out of town we can mail your T-shirt for a $5 fee!  Just check the box in the registration.

Your walk or run must equal a 5K or 3.1 miles.
