A Running Experience for the Whole Family

The Riverbottom Trail Run is a running/walking event in Montrose CO to benefit the Montrose and Olathe Special Olympic Teams. Parking will be at the Montrose County School District Offices and the event will be run on the trails that connect to it. You will have the option of running the 5 Mile or participating in our Up-to-Two Miler. We call it an Up-to-Two miler because we recognize that we all have different abilities. Our very own Special Olympic team will be participating in the Up-to-Two Miler at their unique ability level. Because we honor all ability levels we have no cut off times and our team will stay to support you until you finish. We even encourage walkers or hikers to try our courses. Age group winners will receive beautiful handmade art.

The 5 mile will have one half-way aide station with gatoraide and water.

Race day registration is between 7:45 and 8:45. Please note if you are registering after April 8th or on race day, you are not guaranteed a shirt but we hope to provide everyone with one.

WHY RUN?

Special Olympic benefits 75 students with special needs and 20 general education partners. Not to mention, all those additional students impacted when they volunteer for events, participate in the R-word campagne, and experience school assembles. Seasons include: bowling, track and field, flag football, basketball, and snowshoeing. Teams practice afterschool weekly and then travel to meets in other districts as well as state games for students who qualify. Plus, students go to a Project Unify Summit for Project Unified Schools in Colorado. Traveling teams are composed of general education and special education athletes. Although, some support comes from Special Olympic Colorado, the cost of hosting meets and events in addition to the cost of traveling to meets and events is signficant and the only way the team can participate fully is through support from fundraisers like this one.

PLEASE NOTE YOU WILL HAVE TO SIGN A WIAVER WHEN YOU PICK UP YOUR RACE PACKET AND BEFORE YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO RUN. THANK YOU!
