Information:

The Southern Colorado Runners club is happy to announce The 45th Pueblo Chieftain Spring Runoff will be an in person event.

The Pueblo Chieftain and the Southern Colorado Runners welcome you to the 45th Annual Pueblo Chieftain Spring Runoff, Saturday, March 5th, 2022. Join us for the 45th edition of Pueblo’s oldest and largest running event. Since 1978, The Pueblo Chieftain, southern Colorado’s leading newspaper, has supported and sponsored this yearly springtime race. A portion of race proceeds benefit the Care & Share Food Bank of Pueblo.

Kids through 8th grade can run for free in the  Funner To Be A Runner event starting at 10:45 am. Sign up for the event on this link, sign the waiver and get credit for your school.

We are offering 3 races of varying distances that should appeal to a wide variety of runners.  The 5K, 10K, and 10 mile race courses all incorporate the beautiful Arkansas River Trail, beginning and ending at Dutch Clark Stadium. We will be returning to the "Classic" courses this year which means more miles on the River Trail.

5K -$25  (early entry through February 25th---$35 beginning February 26th)

10K-$25  (early entry through February 25th---$35 beginning February 26th)

10 Mile-$25  (early entry through February 25th---$35 beginning February 26th)

Overall winners will receive a race plaque in commemoration. Age group medals will awarded for first 3 places in 5 year increments

Packet pickup will be held at the YMCA in Pueblo @ 3200 E Spaulding Ave in Pueblo from 4-7pm on Friday March 4th. Race day packet pickup will be at Dutch Clark Stadium from 7:00-8:30am

Course Description (see link to course maps below):

10 Mile: This course is flat and beautiful, which takes runners from Dutch Clark Stadium, through the Aberdeen neighborhood (one of the nicest neighborhoods in town), and then down to the scenic Arkansas River trail, head west (left) on the Arkansas River trail and enjoy the many scenic views before turning around at a little bridge on the edge of the State Park and then return downstream to Dutch Clark via the Arkansas River Trail.

10K Run: Follows same course as the 10 miler for about 3 miles to turn around. The course takes runners from Dutch Clark Stadium, through the Aberdeen neighborhood (one of the nicest neighborhoods in town), down to the scenic Arkansas River trail, turn left (west) on the Arkansas River trail and proceed to turn around just downstream of the Nature Center. You will then run downstream to a finish at Dutch Clark Stadium

5K Run: The 5K course is flat and fast. It follows the same course as the 10 mile and 10K course until reaching the Arkansas River Trail where runners turn right (east) and run downstream to a Dutch Clark Stadium finish. It won't be surprising to run a 5K PR on this course

Check the weather forecast; be prepared for snow and cold. Please do your best to provide a quality and safe run and enjoy your run.
