Course Info

The 6.2 mile course begins at sea level at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill. The course takes runners immediately connecting with Tanaka Cat Road. Once at “TV Corner” runners will continue up through the lower bowl of Alyeska Resort to the Silvertip single track mountain bike trail. Once at the top of Silvertip runners will face a very steep climb up Center Ridge. The steep pitch and exposure will challenge the hardiest of mountain runners as the scramble continues up to Teacup Bowl and across to the Headwall at 3,800 feet. Once at the top, runners will be treated to amazing views of the Chugach Mountains, Turnagain Arm and many hanging glaciers and far off peaks (and will get inspired for ski season in AK.) The Headwall ridge run will feature up and down bursts with a gradual downgrade to 3,300 feet to the MAX’s weather station. Once at the weather station the runners will start the descend through loose rock and mountain heather before they dive into the heavily wooded Max’s Mountain trail. The trail descends through hemlock and spruce trees, iconic Pacific Northwest vibes, with moss covered fallen trees and loamy soil. The Max’s down-climb is very steep and runners will utilize surrounding trees. In certain parts ropes have been installed for balance and agility. The rope section is a no passing zone. The mossy trail will exit back at Alyeska’s Tanaka Cat Road and runners will continue the descend back to sea level and to the Finish line at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill.

SAFETY LANGUAGE:  The course is the most direct route to the high alpine, it is steep, but intuitive, you will be pushing hard for the summit, putting yourself to your capacity, lungs, grit, and strength. Please note, we will have the course well marked, it is imperative, for your safety, you follow precise path of flagging.  Please follow all course marshall directives.  In a steep portion of the descent, ropes have been installed to help navigate the steep & tricky terrain. Location of the ropes portion of the race is towards the end of the race, it is approx 50 yards long.  In the ropes descent, you must slow down, we have instituted a 'no pass zone' in the ropes area.  We have removed as many rocks as possible that could be kicked loose, yet, it is impossible to free the area of all rocks.  Please be prepared to slow down, pay close attention to your footwork and if you kick a rock loose, immediately yell 'rock' to notify fellow competitors you have kicked a rock loose. If you are further down the course and you hear, "rock!", please do not look up, please turn your back and protect your head.  We can't stress this section enough.  No passing, careful footwork, look out for the safety of yourself and fellow competitors equally.

**Course subject to be adjusted as necessary

**Every competitor must inspect full course prior to race day.

**Every competitor is subject to a strict cut-off time, at beginning of Center Ridge, of 50 minutes.

Aid Station:
We will provide Wasatch Nectar honey, water & Gnarly Hydrate on course for all participants.
Gnarly Hydrate & water will also be available at finish line.

Cancellation / Refund Policy:  the race organizers reserve the ability to cancel the event due to unsafe weather, any variety of circumstances, etc. Race organizers will make the best decisions when it comes to protecting the safety of all runners. This means we reserve the right to adjust, cancel, reroute, or reschedule as we see fit.

Because the bulk of our costs come before the event even occurs we will not be able to extend refunds to those who wish to cancel their registration. We will assess things appropriately & fairly, to the best of our abilities. If the race is popular enough to create a waiting list, we will also treat your entry fairly with specifics TBD.

Race registration is non transferable & cannot be rolled over to subsequent races. We will always treat our community fairly but also ask that you be sympathetic about the realities of putting on a great event. Anyone running under a bib assigned to another athlete will be banned from future Cirque Series Races, we take this very seriously because it creates a safety issue.

Cateories:
*SPORT: This category is for people that don't have a ton of mountain experience, and wouldn't call themselves strong runners. But are ready to test themselves.

*EXPERT: This category is for people with a lot of mountain experience, consider themselves strong hikers with competent running skills.

*PRO: This category is for professional & sponsored athletes.
