_ The 2023 Conquer the Rock 25k & 50k:

Conquer The Rock

Foothills 50k & Bear Crawl 25k & Dare You Double

Table Rock State Park

Not for the faint of heart but the views are worth it!   Table Rock State Park is one of the premier parks in the southeast with a mountain range that nestles in the heart of the foothills. This race will test your will but the experience and views will be well worth your effort! Upstate Ultra welcomes you to the Annual Conquer the Rock race series that is held in beautiful Table Rock State Park. Table Rock State Park fits the bill for the natural beauty. The towering mountain, which gives the park its name, serves as a backdrop for the 3,000 acre park. Below this section of the Blue Ridge Mountains, South Carolina natives and visitors can enjoy Table Rock State Park cabins, a campground and an old-fashioned swimming hole on one of the park’s two lakes. The Conquer the Rock Ultra includes the Foothills 50k and the Bear Crawl 25k. This event has a pure, gritty, and natural feel that nestles itself in the heart of the foothills trail. The race offers two distances that encompass a 15+ mile loop within the state park.    Welcome to the Upstate Ultra Trail Series brought to you by the South Carolina Ultra Marathon Club. We are proud to bring in a series of events that range in distance, terrain, and season! Table Rock Course

  • NEW Course Map HERE
  • Elevation Gain - 25k Race - 4,250 Feet of Gain
  • Elevation Gain - 50k Race - 8,500 Feet of Gain
The Foothills 50k has 16,000 Feet of elevation change and is comprised of a 2 loop course. The course summits Pinnacle Mountain (2nd highest point in South Carolina) as well as Table Rock Summit which has an amazing view of all the Foothills of South Carolina. The start and finish of the race will take place at Pinnacle Barn. The 25k is just one loop of the 50k Course and will have 7,500 feet of elevation change. The course will have a series of directional arrows that will be placed at all intersections. Please follow all directional arrows to stay on course. In the event that you make a wrong turn please backtrack to your original spot of confusion. Cutting the course (even if unintentionally will lead to a disqualification). During the race you will complete an out and back section to the Table Rock overlook on each loop.

Personal Tent Set Up - Drop Bags

Athletes are permitted to have a drop bag or personal tent near the aid station inside the Barn. Please be mindful to place your personal belongings off the course as to not impede the runners, the flow of traffic, or other race participants. The start and finish line loop will serve as the official drop bag area designation. When you are finished with your race please "pack in and pack out" making the host facility look better than you found it.

Address

Runners will access Table Rock State Park at this address: W. Gate Road Pickens, SC 29671.From there they will follow the signs to park at the Pinnacle Pavilion. When you enter the front gate you will make your first left hand turn to Pinnacle Pavilion. Please make use of all the parking spots and carpool if available

Aid Stations

There are two aid stations for the 50k that each runner will pass at mile 8 - 11 - 15 - 23 - 26.  This is a cup-less event so runners are required to carry a hydration bottle if they will need fluids during the race. The main aid station will have tailwind, soda, water, cookies, salt, chips, and crackers and various other items from our volunteers. We encourage each runner to bring an aid station item to contribute to this great event. The water station on course will have water ONLY. We gladly accept aid station donations of food items that you like to see at races. Our staff is very busy with course marking, timing, packet pickup, and communication with runners, that it does make it hard to prepare some amazing tasty treats in-between laps so feel free to contribute a little slice of heaven if you can! Due to the limited access on the trail and the WATER ONLY aid station on the course, all runners will be required to start with these minimum nutritional needs. Failure to meet this simple requirement will result in a disqualification. It is important to keep our runners safe so that our staff, our volunteers, and the state park do not have to drag you off the mountain because you failed to prepare appropriately.
  • 24oz fluids (per loop)
  • 400 calories (per loop)
  • Trekking Poles are allowed but not required

Eco-Standard

In an effort to be good stewards to mother nature we will not have any of the following items at ANY of our events. This is in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint being placed by endurance events throughout the world. Please have a cup or hydration bottle if you will need to consume water/nutrition during the event. Please bring your own fork/spoon for any post race meals. Please bring your own bags for items collected at the race.
