Description
Who was Will?    William Joseph Howard was a regular teenager who, like many others, loved sports, the outdoors, his friends, and his family. He was a very caring boy who always strived to do the right thing.    Everyone was Will's friend.    He was kind, and respectful to all. He would go out of his way to assist others. Will also looked up to hard-working people as role-models, and had an entrepreneur attitude himself. He always saved his money for important things that would have clear benefits to him, or those surrounding him.    Will was hilarious.    He always took the initiative to make others happy. Will had a zest for life, and demonstrated that leadership comes from everyday words and actions. Will's life tragically ended on May 2, 2009 in a bicycle accident just six days shy of his 14th birthday.    He would have attended Plainfield High School in the autumn of 2009. In his memory, his friends and family have created a scholarship to honor the life of William Joseph Howard.    This $1,000 scholarship is open to any Plainfield High School college-bound senior who deomonstrates similar endearing qualities. What is Will's Way 5k?    In 2010, the event: "Will's Way 5k" was set up with the initiative of funding a scholarship program in the name of William Joseph Howard in the form of a 5k run and walk. During the spring of 2010, his friends and family met countless times discussing and planning the event. With hard work and determination, they accomplished their goals and the first annual Will's Way 5k proved profitable and enjoyable for all- a feat achieved only through the tenacious efforts and "will" of it's many volunteers.    The name, Will's Way, represents the truly unique characteristics that made William who he was.    There was definitely a "Will's way".
