Description

A new 1-mile race created to raise money for the Cheyenne Mountain Heritage Center could bring us the fastest times in the region.

Bristol Brewing Co. and Victory Racing Co. are hosting The Bristol Mile on June 30.

The professionally timed downhill run will start at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High and finish in front of the Ivywild School project with a community festival. Proceeds from the race and festival will benefit the Cheyenne Mountain Heritage Center.

There is nothing like the Bristol Mile in Colorado Springs, said race co-organizer Karen Scott.  Its the only one-mile foot race in town created for professional runners looking to break records, and for amateur runners looking to celebrate community.

The Bristol Mile features a USA Track & Field-certified course, and will use radio-frequency identification technology called ChronoTrack for timing.

Racers will run in men's and women's elite divisions as well as age divisions (open 10 and younger, male and female 18 and younger, male and female 18 and older).

This race makes running at altitude fair, said Stan Lambros, race co-organizer. With a gentle decent of 114 feet, the wide-road one-mile course down Cheyenne Boulevard is an equalizer.  This is the place where professional runners and state champions will look to break course records.

The community fun event and awards ceremony will take place in the parking lot of the Ivywild School Project, and will include a beer garden by Bristol Brewing Co., live entertainment by the Mobile Music Project, food by Laaus Tacos, and childrens games.

Registration is $15 through June 1, and $20 from June 2 to June 28. Registrants age 21 and older will receive a complimentary pint from Bristol Brewing Co.

Parking will be available at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High, Cheyenne Mountain Heritage Center, Cheyenne Mountain High School and along Cheyenne Road.
