On October 13, 2012, Redwood City will host the 2nd Annual OktobeRun Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk. Last years inaugural race was one of the first half marathons on the Peninsula in years. The half marathon course is flat, scenic, and mostly off-road, perfect for a personal record. Beginning a block from historic Courthouse Square in downtown Redwood City, runners travel off road and join the Bay Trail by the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge to Redwood Shores and back. The 5K course follows the first part of the longer course and is mostly on city streets.
Weather is likely to be perfect for runners. Situated midway between San Francisco and San Jose, our location next to San Francisco Bay keeps our climate moderate and comfortable year round. The average high temperature in October is 73 and the average low is 49.
After the race, runners and their families can stay for a full day of food, drink, and live entertainment at the Peninsula Oktoberfest celebration at Courthouse Square (http://peninsulaoktoberfest.com).
All proceeds from the race and festival will go to the Redwood City Education Foundation. The RCEF has been working since 1983 to advance and enrich educational opportunities for the 9,200 students of the Redwood City School District.
The half marathon course is flat, scenic, and mostly off-road, perfect for a personal record. Beginning a block from Courthouse Square at County Center, it exits downtown and joins the Bay Trail, heading north next to Bair Island in the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The course continues into Redwood Shores where runners run on a gravel trail next to picturesque Steinberger Slough. The end of this section marks the turnaround, where runners retrace their steps to the finish line near Courthouse Square.
The 5K Run/Walk, which is on city streets, will follow the same course and turn around at about 1.55 miles.
