2010 Sombrero Beach Run:

The Southernmost Runners Club welcomes you to the 4th annual Sombrero Beach Run.

If you are looking for a truly special run/walk for your vacation in paradise, look no further - Sombrero Beach Run has it all: a 10K Run, 5K Run and a 5K Walk.

Kick off Friday night with a pre-registation party poolside at one of Marathon's finest bayside resorts.

Race day - be swept away with custom t's, entertainment by DJ Tito and the EJM Boys, runners' breakfast, after race lunch, drinks, trophies, loads of raffles all at the spectacular setting of Sombrero Beach.

Come see why this is the #1 event of it's kind in the Florida Keys.

Course Info

This course will be USATF Certified prior to the race.

The flat tropical course begins and ends at the most beautiful beach in the Florida Keys - Sombrero Beach.

The 10K and 5K course follow Sombrero Beach Road on the newly constructed and paved bike path.

The 5K Turn Around is clearly marked by signs and our large staff of volunteers.

The 10K follows Sombrero Beach Road to Sombrero Boulevard.

Sombrero Boulevard follows along the "front nine" of the Sombrero Country Club and then along Boot Key Harbor until the road passes the clubhouse of the Sombrero Country Club where the course jogs left.

Here the course follows along the "back nine" over the bridge to Flamingo Island where it loops and follows the same course back.

There are over 60 race course volunteers assigned to the course and two water stations.

Directions

From the north, follow Route 1 to mile marker 50. Take a left (Sombrero Beach Road) at the light between the Publix Shopping Center and the KMart/Winn Dixie Shopping Center. Follow Sombrero Beach Road until the end (approximately 2 miles).

From the south, follow Route 1 to mile marker 50. Take a right (Sombrero Beach Road) at the light between the Publix Shopping Center and the KMart/Winn Dixie Shopping Center. Follow Sombrero Beach Road until the end (approximately 2 miles).

Other Info

Sombrero Beach is a public beach. There is free parking, covered picnic areas, grills, bathhouses, a childrens' playscape, a pavilion, volleyball nets, etc.

Plan to stay the day or the whole weekend - other events will be held on Saturday and Sunday in the area, and local restaurants and lodgings will offer discounts to Sombrero Beach Runners.

100% of the proceeds of this race go to KAIR. KAIR is the middle Keys Food Pantry and Emgergency Service Agency helping those individuals and families who have found themselves in crisis.
