_ 2017 Moorpark Groundhog Day 5K:
The Groundhog will be running again on Saturday February 4th 2017 during Moorpark’s 5th annual premier 5K road race and one-mile fun run.
Benefitting Moorpark High School’s cross country and track programs, the Groundhog Day event consists of two runs. Starting and ending on the track at the high school, the 5K is a fast, chip timed road race with an exciting finish in the beautiful Moorpark High School stadium. All ages and abilities are welcome including walkers and strollers and in the spirit of Groundhog Day, costumes are encouraged. There will also be a “Catch the Groundhog” 1 mile fun run for kids 11 and under which will be held on the track with finisher medals for all. Registration fees include a t-shirt for all runners.
Scott Mangers, a coach of the Musketeer cross country and track programs said the school wants to recognize and celebrate Moorpark being an active community whilst raising much needed funds for the high school’s cross country and track teams.
"Over 400 participants turned out for a terrific race in 2016. This is a fun and healthy event for the entire family and we look forward to an even greater show of support at our 5th annual race," he said.
Post-race festivities include the awards ceremony with medals for the top three finishers of each age group, refreshments, vendors and a raffle of wonderful prizes donated by local businesses.
Moorpark High School is located at 4500 Tierra Rejada Road, Moorpark. There will be plenty of free parking close to the race start.
