_ The 2018 Cure for Cluster—5k Run/Walk for Cluster Headache Awareness:

The 2nd Annual #CureforCluster 5k Run/Walk for Cluster Headache Awareness is on June 16, 2018, at DeKoevend Park!

If you live too far away, we're excited to announce we have a virtual race option available this year. Simply fill out the registration form, and we'll send you a t-shirt to wear on the day of the race. Please take photos of your run in your hometown so we can cheer you on from Denver!

What are Cluster Headaches? Cluster Headaches are not "headaches." This neurological condition is a form of Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalalgia which causes severe one-sided attacks of sharp, ice-pick type pain anywhere from 1 up to 12 times a day, lasting 15 minutes to 3 hours each. Nicknamed "Suicide Headaches," this disease is known to be one of the most painful conditions known to man. The most effective treatment is high-flow oxygen through a non-rebreather mask, but the National Institute of Health has yet to classify oxygen therapy for cluster headaches, leaving many sufferers paying hundreds each month or going without treatment.

Why Join Us? This 5k run/walk is to raise awareness for this horrific condition, and 100% of the profits will go towards cluster headache research. The race will begin just off of Shelter A on High Line Canal Trail at Julia Dekoevend Park in Centennial, Colorado at 8:15 AM on Saturday, June 16, 2017. Registration begins at 7:30, and early registration pickup will be on Friday, June 15, 2017, from 4 pm to 6 pm at 24 Hour Fitness (6839 S. Vine St. Centennial, CO 80122). Following the race, we will have an early lunch at the park as well (More details to come) at 11 am.

Clusterbusters: The proceeds of this race are going toward research funded through Clusterbusters (founded by Bob Wold) with whom we are affiliated. We urge you to check out the website and learn more about this incredible organization who has helped thousands of cluster headache patients around the world. Current research is being conducted at Yale University for both episodic and chronic patients by Emmanuelle Schindler, MD, Ph.D. Another study which involves the psychological effects of cluster headaches on the lives of patients is on the cusp of completion at the University of West Georgia by Dr. Larry Schor.

When and Where: In case you haven’t marked your calendars yet, the Race Against Pain: Cluster Headache Awareness 5k Run/Walk is on Saturday, June 16 at Julia Dekoevend Park (6301 S University Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121) and the fun run/walk begins at 8:15 am at Shelter A.

Parking: There is a large parking lot right off the entrance. It should be the first thing you see when you turn into Julia Dekoevend Park. This is the best place for you to park because our registration desk and the start line is at Shelter A, which is the first shelter you see when you pull into the park. Hopefully, you will have no issues finding us, but if you do please call or text: 303-842-4858. (See photo gallery to see where to park.)

Early Packet Pick-up: You can pick up your race packet from 7:30-8:00 am on the day of the run/walk (Saturday, June 16), or you can stop by 24-Hour Fitness (6839 S. Vine St. Centennial, CO 80122) from 4 pm to 6 pm the night before the race (Friday, June 15). You can also snag some 24-Hour products for a discounted price while you’re there.

Race Day Timeline: Registration and check-in begin at 7:30 am and end at 8 am. You can also purchase raffle tickets any time before 10:30 am. The run/walk starts at 8:15 am, and we hope all runners/walkers will complete the course by 10:15 am. Door and raffle prizes will be announced at 10:30 am with sponsor recognition and a closing speech to follow.

Course Details: The course is 3.1 miles and involves gravel, pavement and wooden bridges. If you have health concerns, please take your time. This is a fun run/walk, so don’t worry about coming in first or last. Although, the first to cross the finish line will get the first pick of door prizes.

Emergency Help: Volunteers will be placed along the route, and first aid kits are located at each aid station along with refreshments. Should you have a medical emergency, a volunteer will be readily available to help.

Aid Stations: We will have two aid stations: one located where gravel turns to pavement and another at the turnaround point to make sure all runners and walkers are accounted for.
